Linux

We have a virtual machine built on Xubuntu 18.04, which will allow you more control over your linux environment than the lab machines. This image is set up almost exactly like our lab machines with all the packages we provide for development.

Click here for the new VM.

We also have an older VM image built on Ubuntu MATE 16.04. It doesn’t have nearly as many packages, but it is a much smaller download. You can download the old VM here: cs-ubuntu-vm.zip (2.1 GB). Username: cs-student Password: H@ckTheWorld!

The BYU Linux Club maintains ISO files of some common Linux distributions. You can find them at linuxclub.cs.byu.edu/downloads.

This section contains guides about Linux-related topics. They're still useful for advanced users, but they don't require any Linux experience.

This is a collection of tutorials for advanced linux users.
